![]() ![]() For my use case the videos are high quality enough that reencoding is not a big issue. I created my own video editor for cutting which also uses ffmpeg (like OP). I expect project files to keep sources unedited. I would imagine the standard workflow preferring exact cutting over losslessness. I don’t know or have an overview of how various video editors handle this. This is an inherent technical limitation. Visualization for the above example: * ° ° ° * ° ° ° * ° ° If you have 1 complete frame and then 3 differential frames, you can not cut off the previous frames at frame 3 because frame 3 and 4 will be missing information to display the full image. ![]() Modern codecs encode the video image sequence into key frames and differential frames.
